Autumn Perfection on the Outer Banks

An amazing weekend here on the Outer Banks. The weather is ideal--really . . . low to mid 80s, very scattered clouds, low humidity. It contains all the reasons we keep telling people fall may be the best time of the year to visit. But more than that, there is so much to do this weekend that it's hard to know where to start. Two big events and a perfect ocean are what it's all about.Events--The Charity Classic is a tennis tournament fundraiser for Dare County Home Health and Hospice. This is either the 12th or 13th annual one of these and both the competition and the fundraising keep getting better. The early morning doubles action was excellent yesterday at WestSide Athletic Club in Powells Point. Things wrap up today at Duck Woods in Southern Shores. The huge event, though, is the 2nd Annual Outer Banks Bluegrass Festival at Roanoke Island Festival Park in Manteo. Very traditional bluegrass yesterday--a little more cutting edge today. Nu Blu is a personal favorite playing at 2:30 today. Headliner Rhonda Vincent and the Rage has to be seen to be believed. Ricky Scaggs has already been booked for next year's event on the last weekend of September.Don't forget--all national parks, Fish and Wildlife lands and national monuments are closed until Congress passes a budget.
