Five Things To Do Now That Fall Is Here

Ask just about anyone who lives on the Outer Banks what their favorite time of the year is, and the answer will probably be “Fall.” With temperatures just off the summer peak, water temperatures still in the upper 70s conditions are as close to perfect as it gets.

For the visitor who wants to get out and enjoy the outdoors, this is the time of the year to come to the Outer Bank. To help with knowing what to do, here's our Joe Lamb Jr., & Associates list of five Outer Banks outdoor activities.

Surfing

No guarantees on what conditions you may encounter, but September through October on the Outer Banks often features the best conditions of the year with clean surf, even breaks and good rideable waves.

Fishing

Surf fishing, pier fishing, near shore, inshore, Gulf Stream . . . fall fishing is often spectacular. Right now surf and pier fishing is a little bit slow, but off shore in the Gulf Stream charters are reporting some of the best fishing seen in years.

Kiteboarding

A quick history lesson. The Wright Brothers came to the Outer Banks for the constant winds-nothing has changed. Autumn winds are some of the cleanest and best of the year. With 1000s of square miles of open water in the sounds and the Atlantic Ocean at your doorstep, there is no better time of the year or better place to kiteboard.

Kite Flying

See the quick history lesson above. There is no other place in the world like the Outer Banks to fly a kite. For experienced or novice flyers, Jockey's Ridge State Park has to be experienced to understand why it is truly one of the finest places in the world to fly a kite.

Bike Ride

Temperatures have fallen just a bit, and there are not nearly as many people on the roads. It does make for an ideal time to ride a bike, and with miles and miles of interconnecting bike paths-especially north of Oregon Inlet-it's a great time to get out and pedal.

A tip from a bike rider-try to ride out against the wind. Riding home with the wind in your face can be exhausting.

Fall Rates have fallen

Fall rental rates are significantly less than rates during the peak season and selection is great. Call us at 800-552-6257 or visit us online and let's make an autumn getaway come true.
