New World Festival of the Arts Part of Great Entertainment Week

We have a great week coming up on the Outer Banks-the weather is looking fantastic with daytime highs in the mid 80s so it won't be too hot, with sunshine forecast for most of the week.

Some great events coming up: 2015 Club 420 North American Championship will be held in the Croatan Sound on the north end of Roanoke Island Thursday through Saturday. The 420 class are single-hulled sailboats about 14' in length. A youth competition, the boats use a two person crew.

There's a pirate festival at the Nags Head Kitty Hawk Kites store on Thursday . . .

But the highlight of the week has to be the 34th Annual New World Festival of the Arts in downtown Manteo on Wednesday and Thursday. Started by Eddie Greene of the Christmas Shop and an Outer Banks tradition since 1982 , the celebration of creativity and art is now sponsored by the Dare County Arts Council.

An outdoor festival, last year's event had over 85 artists from all over the East Coast and this year looks to be even better. Manteo provides and absolutely wonderful setting for the event; quaint and picturesque, the waterfront area of the town looks as though it was frozen in time in a Norman Rockwell painting. The booths, spread along the boardwalk bordering Shallowbag Bay provide a perfect setting for an Outer Banks day.
