First Day of Two Day Mustang Rock & Roast a Great Success.

The first day of the Mustang Rock & Roast is now in the bag and whatever the expectations were, they were exceeded.

It helped that the weather was perfect, but the sunshine and autumn temperatures, just made an amazing day or music that much better.

The headliner, Big Something, didn’t disappoint…at all.

Incredibly tight musically with great arrangements that took full advantage of Jesse Hensley’s screaming but very excellent lead guitar work paired with the  fantastic sounds Casey Cranford gets from his alto sax and EWI (Electric Wind Instrument), Big Something’s sound is, well, big.

A very full rich sound they roam seamlessly between different types of music—reggae, a touch of country, jazz and funk. Nick MacDaniels on lead vocals ties it all together and the result is music worth listening to.

With six bands taking the stage, it’s difficult to list them all, but one other band really stood out.

Anthony Rosano and the Conqueroos doesn’t fall easily into any one genre of music, although they are certainly a rock band. But what sets them apart is how well they played every type of music they performed. Blues? They killed it with three fantastic numbers.

Classic jam band music? They got going and there was so much happening the it was difficult to remember the band consists of guitar, sax and harmonica, bass and drums.

They even threw in a ballad about growing up on. The place was Long Island, New York, but sentiment and lyrics described almost anywhere.

There was not a weak band anywhere, but Big Something and Anthony Rosano and the Conqueroos stood out among one of the most amazing days of music we have witnessed on the Outer Bank in a long time.

We’re back at it tomorrow for day two of the Mustang Rock & Roast. Rock was on the menu today—that was the oyster. Tomorrow it’s a barbecue showdown.

Headliner tomorrow night is Pink Talking Fish.

The Mustang Rock & Roast is a great event but there are more great events on tap for the Outer Banks. Joe Lamb, Jr. & Associates has the best homes at the best locations to enjoy the Outer Banks.

Hello to Mustang Rock & Roast, Goodbye to TS Michael

Mustang Rock & Roast poster

Hurricane Michael will be just a memory by Saturday and Sunday, but as it leaves the Outer Banks it’s dragging some awesome weather behind it.

Actually by the time it gets to the Outer Banks, it will be Tropical Storm Michael and after looking at every weather forecast we can find, it looks as though Thursday and early morning Friday are going to be wet and windy days, but nothing that would raise concerns on the Outer Banks.

What that means is for anyone who had plans for the upcoming weekend, don’t change those plans.

The big event of this coming weekend is the Saturday and Sunday Mustang Rock & Roast, combining great music with food. It’s hard to imagine anything wrong with that combination.

Six bands will take the stage on both days, and one of the best features of Mike Dianna/Bearded Face Production is the continuous music through the use of two stages. As one band is playing, the next one is setting up, and when the fist band’s set ends, the music begins immediately

It creates a great day of music.

This year though, Mike is taking it one step farther by combining fun food with the festival.

Saturday its steamed oysters—that’s the Rock—and Sunday there’s a barbecue showdown. That’s the Roast.

The headliners for the festival, Big Something on Saturday and Pink Talking Fish on Sunday will be capping two days of great music.

And the weather will make this an even better event, with daytime temperature hovering around 70 and bright sunshine.

Proceeds from the Mustang Rock & Roast supports two fantastic causes—the Corolla Wild Horse Fund and the Mustang Outreach program that helps to supplement the music programs in local schools, teaching kids about music and performance.

The Mustang Rock & Roast is just one of a number of great fall events on the Outer Banks. Joe Lamb, Jr. & Associates has the perfect accommodations and great rates for an autumn getaway.

And the music and festivals just keep on coming

We just wrapped up two great Outer Banks music festivals this week—the Outer Banks Bluegrass Festival that ran Wednesday through Saturday and the Duck Jazz Festival that was on Saturday and Sunday.

These were fantastic shows with some great headliners. Steel Drivers were amazing, wrapping up the Bluegrass Festival and the Russell Malone Quartet headlining at Duck was the perfect way to wrap up the week.

Next up is Mustang Rock & Roast in Corolla—combining the best of two worlds next Saturday and Sunday.

It’s a Mike Dianna/Bearded Face Production. For anyone who has had a chance to go to one of the Mustang Music Festivals there is the sure knowledge that there will always be music happening.

Mike’s Festivals use two stages so when one band finishes up the next one is ready to go.

It’s a full day of music both days with two great headliners capping a mere of great local and regional bands.

On Saturday Big Something wraps the day up with their great fusion sound. They’re a little bit funk, a bit of hiphop, some jazz thrown in with a touch of the blues. In other words their not easily classified, but they sound great.

Sunday the show goes out with sounds of Pink Talking Fish—a tribute band like no other. And here’s the kicker…the music they’re playing comes from Talking Heads, Pink  Floyd and Phish. An eclectic and somewhat varied sound, but they pull it off.

What makes the Mustang Rock & Roast different though, is the Saturday oyster roast and the Sunday barbecue showdown. What could be better?

There is something to do on the Outer Banks every weekend it seems. Check out Joe Lamb, Jr. & Associates for the best accommodation selection and locations on the Outer Banks.
