1921 Silent Film Screening - 02/05/2012 to 02/05/2012
Come see! Digitally re-mastered black and white film. Commissioned by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction in 1921, this silent film depicts English attempts to colonize Roanoke Island between 1584 and 1590. Scripted and performed by local residents, this production was the forerunner of the famous outdoor drama The Lost Colony, which debuted in 1937. Pioneer Theater, Manteo. 3 p.m. No admission charge.

Navigating the Stars - 02/24/2012 to 02/24/2012
Begin this unique evening with an inside study of the skies using the Science on a Sphere, a 68-inch globe with projected images of the sun, stars, and planets. Investigate celestial navigation techniques long used by mariners. Take measurements with a cross-staff and a sextant. Outside, identify galaxies, planets, and constellations. End the evening around a fire roasting marshmallows and listening to star-related stories. Ages 6+. No admission charge, but space is limited. Pre-register by 2/23. North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island, 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
