Who is Joe Lamb Jr. and how did we begin?
Joe spent his summers vacationing on the Outer Banks when things were just a tad bit different than they are today. Joe recalls his summers here as a child, "There were many times I would sit on the front porch and never see or hear a car. There was one road, what is now the beach road. Everyone knew each other." Even then he recognized something special about the Outer Banks and knew that once people visited here they would want to come back year after year. Ann, too, spent her summers here as a child and recalls the home they had in Nags Head; "My family had a home in Nags Head, we spent many wonderful summers in that home. It is long gone now, but Joe had a coffee table made from that front door, we still use it today" said Ann. In March of 1968, the couple decided they were going to start a vacation rental and real estate sales business on the Outer Banks. They moved their family from Elizabeth City and worked hard to build their business. They started out with two employees, themselves.
Not too long ago, Ann was showing us how "back in the day" all reservations were made on 3 x 5 cards then , logged in on a big board in the middle of the office. All accounting and records were kept by hand. Everything was hand typed, hand calculated and hand recorded! It's unimaginable to think about how we would function in a world without computers, email, or the internet. Well, Joe and Ann took care of that long ago and now Joe Lamb Jr & Associates is a global company that has had inquires from people in over 60 countries! They have provided accommodations to tens of thousands of families and have also helped to make ownership of a property here on the Outer Banks a reality for thousands. "People like to do business with us because we have a solid reputation and we have been here a long time, over 40 years, and that makes people comfortable. I'm proud to be a part of something that brings people to this special place, knowing they are together as a family, and their vacation is something they can remember long after they leave," says Joe.
