150,000 acre refuge made up of forests, swamps and pocosin. One of the last strongholds for the Black Bear. Home to deer and other small mammals, birds and reptiles. Birding, nature photography, wildlife viewing, hunting and fishing (licenses required). Also home of the reintroduced Red Wolf, which almost faced extinction due to inter breeding with dogs and coyotes. Sign up for a "wolf howling" and hear them for yourself!
