Since 1937, millions of visitors to the Outer Banks have enjoyed the tale commemorating the 117 English Colonists whose mysterious legacies still live on in the classic American outdoor symphonic drama known as "The Lost Colony". The Lost Colony is America's foremost and longest-running outdoor drama. Penned by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Paul Green, the play focuses on the attempts by Sir Walter Raleigh to found the first permanent English settlement. The colonists documented the birth of Virginia Dare, the first English child born in America, she is still commemorated in our modern day world! The story tells about the hardships and celebrations of lives of all the colonists as well as the Native Americans they befriended, Manteo and Wanchese.
