South Nags Head is apart of the town of Nags Head, it begins at roughly Mile Post 16.5 which is also the location of Jennette's Research Pier. South Nags Head runs all the way down to roughly Mile Post 25 boarding the Pea Island Wild Life refuge. South Nags Head is nestled away at the southernmost part of the Northern Beaches, located near Cape Hatteras National Sea Shore home to the famous bird sanctuary and reserve Pea Island, this area offers beautiful serene views and is quiet with less light pollution offering a more old school OBX experience.
South Nags Head is the perfect place to go shelling or hunting for sea glass. It is home to many amazing restaurants, unique boutiques and fishing piers. Outer Banks Fishing Pier is home to an OBX staple, Fish Heads bar and grill. The closest grocery store is just a few miles away in Nags Head, but you can always swing by the Fresh Market which is in the Outer Banks Mall shopping center. In this shopping center, you will find a ton of great restaurants from sushi spots to breakfast staples. This shopping center is perfect for grabbing a bite to eat while doing some light day shopping at one of the beach style décor shops. Head over to the Tanger Outlets which is just a couple miles south if you are looking for something special to wear! South Nags Head is a great place to take a day trip from. You can pop right over the bridge and stroll downtown Manteo or stay on the Island and swing by the Bodie Island Light House. Whatever you decide to do in South Nags Head you will not be disappointed it is a wonderful home base for your family vacation!
