The Friends of Jockey's Ridge is a nonprofit organization that was established in 1990 for support and maintenance of Jockey's Ridge State Park. People to Preserve Jockey's Ridge, an earlier nonprofit organization, was formed in 1970 to save the dune from housing development and then became a state park in 1975. As of today, Jockey's Ridge is the tallest natural sand dunes in the Eastern United States and is enjoyed by over a million annual visitors each year!
