First Day of Two Day Mustang Rock & Roast a Great Success.

The first day of the Mustang Rock & Roast is now in the bag and whatever the expectations were, they were exceeded.

It helped that the weather was perfect, but the sunshine and autumn temperatures, just made an amazing day or music that much better.

The headliner, Big Something, didn't disappoint...at all.

Incredibly tight musically with great arrangements that took full advantage of Jesse Hensley's screaming but very excellent lead guitar work paired with the  fantastic sounds Casey Cranford gets from his alto sax and EWI (Electric Wind Instrument), Big Something's sound is, well, big.

A very full rich sound they roam seamlessly between different types of music—reggae, a touch of country, jazz and funk. Nick MacDaniels on lead vocals ties it all together and the result is music worth listening to.

With six bands taking the stage, it's difficult to list them all, but one other band really stood out.

Anthony Rosano and the Conqueroos doesn't fall easily into any one genre of music, although they are certainly a rock band. But what sets them apart is how well they played every type of music they performed. Blues? They killed it with three fantastic numbers.

Classic jam band music? They got going and there was so much happening the it was difficult to remember the band consists of guitar, sax and harmonica, bass and drums.

They even threw in a ballad about growing up on. The place was Long Island, New York, but sentiment and lyrics described almost anywhere.

There was not a weak band anywhere, but Big Something and Anthony Rosano and the Conqueroos stood out among one of the most amazing days of music we have witnessed on the Outer Bank in a long time.

We're back at it tomorrow for day two of the Mustang Rock & Roast. Rock was on the menu today—that was the oyster. Tomorrow it's a barbecue showdown.

Headliner tomorrow night is Pink Talking Fish.

The Mustang Rock & Roast is a great event but there are more great events on tap for the Outer Banks. Joe Lamb, Jr. & Associates has the best homes at the best locations to enjoy the Outer Banks.
