Outer Banks Gold

ItâåÛåªs not Olympic Gold, but the gold medal Eve Turek won last month for her photograph Meditations is about as close as it comes in the field of photography. Awarded a gold medal at the first annual World Photographic Cup in Phoenix, her photo beat out competition from 22 other nations.

The image, an early morning photo taken at Lake Mattamuskeet last January, is extraordinary in its subtlety. At first glance it seems monochromatic--almost black and white--yet it is a full color image with very little color correction from the original shot, according to Eve. There are muted greens from the shrub growth on the island and shades of gray and tans as the early morning fog slowly lifts.

Eve, with her husband Pete, own the Yellow House Gallery in Nags Head. They have recently moved to their new location at the Croatan Center in Nags Head, just across from the Outer Banks Hospital.
