Outer Banks Kids Rock the Competition

The Not-So-Haunted House Team, Nags Head Elementary School, Division I Winner

More evidence of how bright and creative the Outer Banks kids are came in over this weekend. The regional Odyssey of the Mind competition was held at First Flight High School in Kill Devil Hills this past weekend and wow (!) did the local teams do well.

The Odyssey of the Mind is an international program that challenges kids from K-12 to come up with creative ways to solve problems. Along the way it champions teamwork, awards math skills and brings out the actor or actress in the kids.

Dare County schools probably had more teams in the competition than any other location but nonetheless four first place finishes, three second place finishes and a third place finish is remarkable. The top finishers get to go on to the state competition.

There is something energizing and wonderful about seeing kids use being excited about using their minds.

A big congratulations goes out to all the schools that are going on to the state final.
