Weekend on the Outer Banks

A big weekend of entertainment coming up on the Outer Banks.

The Dare County Arts Council is sponsoring Carolina Veterans Weekend. The centerpiece is a veterans writing workshop with the VeteransâåÛåª Writing Project. The workshop brings professional writers from academia who have experienced combat, to work with veterans helping them to write about their experiences. The workshop is free to veterans although it is limited to 25 participants.

In conjunction with that Friday night at Roanoke Island Festival Park in Manteo, NC Poet Laurette Joseph Bathanti will give a reading and Molasses Creek will take the stage for what looks like a memorable evening. Tickets are $12 in advance or $18 at the door. Check with the DCAC for more information.

The entertainment is not done for the weekend. First Flight High School Stagecraft Productions will perform Alice in Wonderland Thursday and Friday evening with a Saturday matinee. These kids always put on a remarkable performance. ItâåÛåªs a fairly short play, so with an hour and a half or two hours of spare time itâåÛåªs a great way to check out the stars of tomorrow.
