The Outer Banks has always been a place where community, care, and connection come naturally — from the windswept dunes to the small-town streets that hold so much heart.
This October, we’re all invited to deepen that connection through the inaugural Outer Banks Volunteer Week, happening October 11–18, 2025

Hosted by the Outer Banks Visitors Bureau, Volunteer Week is part of a growing Voluntourism movement — an opportunity for visitors, residents, and even second homeowners to roll up their sleeves and support the people and places that make this coast so special. It’s a chance to blend purpose with adventure and to experience the Outer Banks in a more meaningful way.
Throughout the week, volunteers can join a variety of local projects and community events, from beach cleanups to fall festivals. A few highlights include:
Hatteras Island Cancer Foundation 5K – Saturday, Oct. 11
Duck Jazz Festival – Oct. 11–12
Island Farm Pumpkin Patch – Oct. 11 & 18
Town of Kitty Hawk & Nags Head Cleanups – Oct. 11 & 17
OBX Arboretum and Teaching Garden Volunteer Day – Oct. 15
Bluegrass Island Music Festival – Oct. 16–18
Beach Cleanups with the Outer Banks Relief Foundation – Oct. 14
OBSE “Another Round” 25K – Oct. 18
Whether you’re planting, cleaning, cheering, or just showing up, every hand makes a difference. Volunteer Week not only supports local organizations — it also helps sustain the natural beauty and vibrant culture that keep the Outer Banks thriving year-round.
