🐾Dog-Friendly Beaches by Town🐾
Each town in the Outer Banks has its own leash laws and beach regulations, so it's essential to know before you go. Here’s a town-by-town breakdown:
Duck: One of the most dog-friendly towns in the OBX! Dogs are allowed on the beach year-round and can play off-leash, as long as they’re under voice control.
Corolla & Carova (4x4 Beaches): Dogs are welcome all year but must remain leashed. Bonus: you might spot wild horses trotting along the shore.
Nags Head: Dogs are allowed year-round, but they must be on a leash no longer than 10 feet, held by someone who can control them.
Kill Devil Hills: Dogs must be leashed at all times. From May 1–Sept 30, dogs are only allowed on the beach before 9 a.m. and after 6 p.m.
Southern Shores: Dogs are permitted on the beach before 9 a.m. and after 6 p.m. (May 15–Sept 15). Leashes must be 10 feet or shorter all year.
Kitty Hawk: Dogs are welcome on the beach with some seasonal restrictions. From the Sunday before Memorial Day through Labor Day, dogs are allowed from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and again from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., leashed at 10 feet max.
Cape Hatteras National Seashore: Open to dogs year-round, but leashes are required at all times. A great spot for sunrise strolls and quiet shoreline adventures.
